How does this tool work?

For each of the 12 non-hydraulic fluid/application categories (air, fuel, water/oil delivery, oil suction, welding gas, sandblast, acid, metal, food, bulk material, steam), once you pick a size the tool looks up that size's actual working pressure from the product's technical table and compares it with your required pressure; if the size's rating is sufficient it recommends the product, otherwise it directs you to contact our technical department. For high-pressure hydraulic lines, because a given size is available across several wire-braided hose grades (from one-wire to six-wire), the tool checks the pressure table for each grade (R1AT, R2AT, 4SH, R15) at that size, then recommends the simplest grade that covers the required pressure. For automotive/mobile applications (R5 hose per DOT/FMVSS), please contact our technical department directly.

Data source: for the 9 categories air, fuel, oil delivery/suction, twin welding, sandblast, chemical/acid and single-braid stainless steel, data comes from the official technical catalog of manufacturer Phoenix (a German-affiliated supplier active in industrial and hydraulic hose since 1989). For the 3 categories food, bulk material and steam, the working pressure values published on each product's own dedicated page on this site are used (also sourced from the official Phoenix catalog), so the tool stays consistent with the product pages; these values were also cross-checked against the equivalent product classes in Parker's industrial hose catalog (Food Handling and Steam Hose series). Unlike the other categories where working pressure is roughly constant across sizes, the metal hose category's working pressure drops noticeably as size increases, per the manufacturer's table — which is exactly why the tool now calculates it by actual size.
