Choke & Kill Hose — BOP Choke & Kill Line

Product Overview
The Choke & Kill hose is a high-pressure flexible line that routes wellbore fluid (drilling mud or formation fluid) from beneath the blowout preventer to the choke manifold or kill line, forming part of the well-control safety equipment on drilling rigs. It is manufactured to API Spec 16C (Specification for Choke and Kill Equipment) for oil and gas drilling operations, to control wellhead pressure and prevent an uncontrolled blowout. The hose must therefore withstand very high static pressure as well as resist pressure impulse, abrasion and fire. Note: this is a completely different product from the BOP hydraulic control hose (Control Line, to API Spec 16D), which only transmits the open/close command to the BOP rams — see the Well Control Hose specifications here. Construction
Choke & Kill hoses built to API Spec 16C are typically constructed with an HNBR (hydrogenated nitrile) tube resistant to drilling mud and wellhead fluids, multiple layers of high-tensile spiral steel wire or cable reinforcement, and a fire-resistant synthetic rubber outer cover; many pressure classes also add a protective stainless-steel armour over the cover for mechanical protection in the rig environment. The exact size, pressure class and end connection are determined from each project's datasheet or technical drawing.

In plain terms: This hose is in effect the safety line of the blowout preventer system: if wellhead pressure rises suddenly, this Choke & Kill line is the path that routes heavy drilling mud or wellhead fluid out of the well or injects it back in. That is why it must both withstand very high pressure and resist fire.
